Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) is helping to drive innovation in the red meat industry, launching a free mobile app that provides producers with up-to-date market information.
Minister for Agriculture, Barnaby Joyce, welcomed the development of the MLA market information app for cattle, sheep and goat producers and congratulated MLA on keeping a long-standing industry at the forefront of technology.
“This new app provides the latest livestock prices and indicators, physical market and saleyard reporting, plus global meat and livestock market news,” Minister Joyce said.
“It’s a simple and easy way for our farmers to get real time information on the value of their livestock.
“The forecasting information also gives producers the ability to sell when the price is right, maximising their farmgate returns.”
The app is easy to use, with tabs for market news, market reports, and one for prices and indicators, covering a range of Australian beef, lamb, mutton and goat-meat market statistics.
“This is the first MLA-branded app for cattle, sheep and goat producers, and it’s the perfect method for delivering up-to-the-minute market information for producers to use in their day-to-day business decision making without being in front of a computer,” Minister Joyce said.
“Farmers are busy. They probably don’t have the luxury of sitting in front of a computer to check these stats, so now there’s a way they can keep on top of the market while they’re out working the land.”
The MLA market information mobile app is available now to download free from the Apple App Store or Google Play, by searching for ‘MLA market information’.
MLA works with the Australian Government—and with other rural research and development corporations, industry and research providers—to improve the productivity, integrity and sustainability of red meat industries.
