Training Delivers For Disadvantaged Job-Seekers

More than 1700 disadvantaged people will be trained for real jobs thanks to the latest funding round of the Newman LNP Government’s Community Learning initiative.

Minister for Education, Training and Employment John-Paul Langbroek said that more than 9,000 training places had been funded under the initiative since it was launched in 2013.

“Our Community Learning initiative is giving disadvantaged Queenslanders the qualifications and skills they need to find work and secure themselves a brighter future,” Mr Langbroek said.

“The results speak for themselves, with more than half of those who’ve completed training under Community Learning now in work.

“The Newman LNP Government believes in helping Queenslanders get ahead – and at the same time we’re addressing skills shortages and boosting productivity so our state can benefit from a strong economy and a bright future.”

Mr Langbroek and Member for Southport Rob Molhoek visited St Vincent’s Care Services Southport facility, where Enterprise and Training Company (ETC) will place participants, thanks to a $116,000 Community Learning grant.

“The Newman LNP Government is partnering with local organisations to ensure that all training is specific and customised to individual learners and their needs,” Mr Molhoek said.

“I’m proud to be part of a strong LNP team that can give organisations like Enterprise and Training Company the assistance they need to support people on the Gold Coast.”

ETC’s training manager Paul Haywood said the funding would allow it to provide additional services to a greater number of job seekers.

“We can provide more than mainstream training, through mentorships, assistance to find jobs and post-employment support,” Mr Haywood said.

Mr Langbroek said that almost $4.3 million had been allocated to fund 34 training projects in the latest round of the five-year, $47 million Community Learning program.
